Removing Hair With IPL
Why live with unwanted hair? At Beautiful U, we offer EXCELIGHT (Intense Pulsed Light) treatments which offer a safe, long-term solution to unwanted, excess hair for both men and women.
Treatment is suitable for the face and body, is quick, and results can be seen after just a few sessions.
Typically, a course of treatments is usually required at intervals of 4 to 8 weeks to align with the hair growth cycle. Following the treatment, your skin will feel smooth, soft, and free from the discomfort of ingrown hairs.
This treatment is ideal for you if:
- Unwanted facial hair is impacting your self-esteem
- Concerns about ingrown hairs
- You desire a long-term solution for hair removal
Common Questions For IPL Hair Removal
How does light-assisted hair removal work?
IPL emits multiple wavelengths of light that target the melanin in hair follicles. The light energy is absorbed by the pigment, which then converts to heat, effectively destroying the hair follicle and preventing future hair growth. This process is best suited for individuals with lighter skin and darker hair.
How is treatment carried out?
A layer of chilled gel is applied to the skin to help guide the light and keep the skin cool. The light guide is placed onto the skin, and a short light pulse is released, targeting multiple follicles simultaneously. The applicator is then moved to the neighbouring area of the skin, and the process is repeated until the entire area is treated. The treated area is then cooled, followed by a layer of soothing gel and SPF. During treatment, protective eyewear will be provided.
Am I suitable for treatment?
Most people are suitable for treatment.
Optimal results are often achieved with clients who have a fairer skin type and medium to dark hair. The darker the hair, the higher the melanin content, which makes it more responsive to treatment, whereas fairer hair containing less melanin can be more challenging to treat.
It is advisable to arrange a consultation to determine the potential success of the treatment.
Grey or white hair, lacking melanin is not suitable for treatment.
How does the treatment feel?
The procedure may cause mild to moderate discomfort depending on the area being treated, but it does not require anaesthesia. The sensation is often likened to the snap of a rubber band. We may cool the skin before and after the treatment to enhance comfort.
What will I see after the treatment?
The heat generated during the treatment damages the hair follicles, but the hair will remain in the follicle. After 1 to 3 weeks, the dead hairs shed as the epidermis undergoes renewal.
Throughout this phase, the hairs may appear to grow as they are pushed out by the new epidermis.
Are there any side effects?
After the treatment, the skin might appear red, and the hair follicles may appear swollen and bumpy, but this typically resolves within a few hours. Adverse effects are uncommon but can include a minor blister or temporary lightening or darkening of the skin.
How many treatments are necessary?
Only the actively growing hair is targeted, so several treatments are necessary. Treatments are scheduled every 4 to 8 weeks, varying by the treated area, until a satisfactory outcome is achieved. The number of treatments required varies; however, typically 6 or more treatments are recommended for optimum results.
How long does each treatment take?
Treatments can take as little as 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the size of the treatment area.
Consultation Procedure
Before receiving treatment, a consultation is required to gather information on your medical history to ensure suitability. Following this, you will be requested to sign a consent form and undergo a test patch before the procedure commences.
Treatments can commence as early as 7 days after the patch test was carried out.
